Short answerIf your sales team has to explain the company in every meeting, if your website doesn’t reflect your size or technology, if every product or division looks like a different company, if young talent doesn’t find you attractive, or if Google and ChatGPT recommend your competitors — your brand is holding you back.

Many companies grow for years without touching the brand. That’s normal: there are more urgent priorities. But there comes a point where the company and its image no longer say the same thing. These are the five signs we see most often.

1. Sales carries the brand on its back

If every meeting starts with explaining who you are, what you do and why you’re different, the brand isn’t doing its job. A good brand opens doors before the sales team arrives: the client is already half convinced.

Quick test: after five minutes on your website, could a new client explain why they should choose you?

2. The website doesn’t look like the company

A modern plant, your own technology, clients around the world… and a website that looks ten years old. Today your website is the first contact for clients, distributors, investors and candidates. If you look smaller than you are, you lose opportunities without knowing it.

3. Every product looks like a different company

The range grew bit by bit: each line has its own logo, style and tone. In the end nobody sees one company behind them — and every launch starts from scratch.

4. Young talent doesn’t see you

Young engineers, technicians and managers also choose employers by their brand. If yours looks dated, they’ll go to a company that looks ready for the future — even if yours is more so.

5. Google and AI recommend your competitors

More and more buyers ask Google, ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity before calling anyone. If your positioning isn’t clear and well explained online, the answers name competitors with clearer brands. This isn’t the future: it’s happening today.

What to do (without changing everything)

You don’t always need a new logo. Often the name carries decades of trust and should stay. The first step is a brand strategy: interviews with management, sales and key clients, one workshop and a deliverable session. In a few weeks you’ll know what to keep, what to change and where to start.

FAQ

How many signs before it’s worth looking at?

Two or three are enough for a conversation. With four or five, your brand is probably costing you sales.

What if the family or the founders aren’t convinced?

That’s common. That’s why the strategy starts by listening to everyone — founders, the next generation and the team — and decisions are taken together.
